OBJECTIVES

1. COPY and PASTE the above image into Photoshop

2. Go to FILE > SAVE AS > and save your work into your personal folder as "LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME_TEACHERCOLORWHEEL.psd"

3. Using the Magic Wand click on the empty RED box on the right-hand side of the page

4. Hold down SHIFT and click on the remaining boxes down to the GREEN box

5. Using the GRADATION tool, click on the Color Picker and choose RED on the color picker

 

6. Click on the background square for the Color Picker and choose GREEN

7. Now click and drag the mouse from the red box to the green box

8. Repeat Steps 3-7 for the four remaining bars

9. For the Value gradation bar, do a gradation from the box reading WHITE to the box reading HUE. Choose any color you want for the hue

10. Now do a gradation from the color you chose for the HUE box in Step 9 to BLACK, ending on the BLACK box

11. Fill in the color wheel itself, using the eyedropper tool to make sure you get the same color

12. SAVE YOUR WORK into the FINISHED WORK folder reading TEACHER COLOR WHEEL when you are ready to submit your work

COLOR TERMS

 

Primary Hues: Red, Yellow, and Blue; cannot be mixed from any other colors

Secondary Hues: Orange, Green, and Violet; mixed from equal parts of two primary hues

Tertiary Hues: RO, YO, YG, BG, BV, and RV; mixed from equal parts of one primary and one secondary hue

Chromatic Neutrals: Browns and Grays achieved by mixing colors opposite from one another on the color wheel

Achromatic: meaning "without color"; black, white, and mixtures of the two

Tints: the lighter value of a color achieved by mixing white into the color

Shades: the darker value of a color achieved by mixing black into a color

Hue: pure color

Intensity: the brightness or dullness of a color, also called its "saturation"

Value: the lightness or darkness of a color

Transparency: quality of a material that allows light to pass through

Opaque: opposite of transparency, quality of a material for no light to pass through

Color Spectrum: ROYGBV, visible when a beam of light becomes refracted through a prism

1. Understand color terminology and how these terms relate to creating artwork

2. Become familiar with the color wheel and be able to locate and identify its components using color terminology

3. Use the Paint Bucket, Gradient, Magic Wand, and color picker in Photoshop
