LINE

A continuous mark made on a surface by a moving tool i.e. brush, pencil, pen

TEXTURE

The feeling of a surface or how a surface looks like it may feel

FORM

A three-dimensional space having height, width, and depth i.e. cones, cylinders, spheres

SHAPE

An enclosed two-dimensional space i.e. circles, squares, rectangles, triangles

COLOR

Determined by hue, saturation, and value

VALUE

Lightness and darkness within an artwork. The difference between value is contrast.

SPACE

The positive or negative area between objects

PRINCIPLES OF ART

RHYTHM & MOVEMENT

The repeated placement of the elements of art to control the viewer's focal point

BALANCE

The presence of equal or unequal visual weight

PROPORTION

The relationship in size between objects

VARIETY

The use of multiple, different elements of art to hold the viewer's interest

EMPHASIS

The main focus of an artwork, what grabs the viewer's attention

HARMONY/UNITY

The sensation of completeness derived from elements of art combining into a cohesive arrangement
