OBJECTIVES

  • Create a Cubist inspired artwork incorporating: three contour hand drawings and intersecting lines.

  • Explore ways to add a personal connection to the composition.

  • Present a well crafted artwork using graphite that demonstrates a range of values and smooth transitions.

  • Complete a self-evaluation based upon goal and objectives.

DIRECTIONS

1. Draw 3 or more contour line drawings of your hand, each in a different pose. Allow the drawings to intersect one another.

2. On top of the hand drawings, draw a contour line drawing  of something that is personal to you.

Some ideas:
-write your name in block/bubble letters
-draw a contour line drawing of an animal
-draw geometric or organic shapes
-write your favorite number
-draw a contour line drawing of an instrument
-draw a contour line drawing of a logo
-draw a contour line drawing of fruit

3. Scan your drawing into Photoshop and save it to your folder as "LastName_FirstName_valuehands.psd"

4. Using the Brush, Gradient, Magic Wand, Smudge, and Blur tools, fill in each shape with a smooth gradient. Make sure to manipulate the Opacity, Size, and Hardness of the Brush tool to control your value. Vary the direction of each gradient, without letting two dark/light spaces to touch one another.

5. Save your work to the CUBIST COLLAGE finished work folder when you are ready to submit your project.

6. Fill out a Rubric and turn it in to Mr. Jones.

EXTRA:

If you finish ahead of time, repeat the following steps by hand using your original drawing.

  • Make use of the various drawing pencils (4B, 2B, F, H, 2H) to control the intensity of your value.

  • Make equal use of your kneaded/rubber eraser to blend hard edges between tones.

  • Your drawing will become more and more abstract as you fill in spaces, do not worry about preserving your original drawings.

  • You may also want to scan in this hand drawn version to Photoshop in order to edit your values using Blur and Smudge tools.
