HELPFUL TIPS

 

UNLOCK A LAYER:

1. Double-click the padlock icon on the layer and click "OK" before renaming your layer

 

RIGHT CLICK:

1. Hold down CNTRL and click to bring up right-click options

CREATE A NEW DOCUMENT:

1. File < New < change pixels to inches…change size of width and height for the assignment
2. Resolution: for using Internet images…Resolution image: 72 pixels/inch…for your scanned art…resolution image: 150 pixels/inch

SCANNING:

1. Place your art face down on the scanner bed and line up with arrow on lower left corner of glass

2. Close the scanner
3. In Photoshop: File < Import < Images from Device

SAVING WORK:

1. Double-click on the “Robot”

2. Make sure that the blue and white "RM520" box appears on the desktop
3. In Photoshop: File < Save As < studentsvr1 < RM520 < Students Shared < MR. JONES CLASSES < "PERIOD" < "YOUR NAME"

HANDING IN WORK:

1. OPEN the blue and white icon on the top right corner of your desktop
2. Save one copy in your folder (see above)
3. In Photoshop: File < Save As < studentsvr1 < RM520 < Students Shared < MR. JONES CLASSES < "PERIOD" < FINISHED WORK < "PROJECT"

GOOGLE SEARCHES:

1. Look up an image…when your results show up, click on “Images”, now click on “Search tools”…on the left click on “Size”…choose Large
2. Choose an image…in the pop-up window choose “View image”…drag the image to your desktop

CONVERTING PNG's:

1. Open in Photoshop: File<Open<select your PNG image
2. In Photoshop: rectangular marquee tool…select your PNG image from the upper left corner to the lower right corner

Edit <Copy <File <New <Ok <Edit <Paste.  You can now close out the original PNG image

PARTIAL SCREEN SHOTS:

1. Shift + Command + 4 , take your mouse and select the area you want to “screenshot”.  Image is saved on your desktop.
2. Open your image: IN PHOTOSHOP , File < Open < Desktop < select your image
 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

Q: My layers palette and toolbar is missing..

A: Click on the Workspace buttons on the upper right side of your screen i.e. Painting, Design to bring them back up.

Q: I can't make any changes to an image on one of my layers..

A: Make sure your layer is unlocked OR if there is a small icon in the bottom, right hand corner of the layer, right click and choose "Rasterize Layer"

Q: I can't save my work to my personal folder or the FINISHED WORK folders..

A: The network may be taking a siesta.. Save your work to the DESKTOP if you are receiving an error message.

Q: NOTHING I AM DOING IS SHOWING UP! MY PAINTBRUSH WON'T PAINT! MY ERASER WON'T ERASE! AGHHH!!!

A: When in doubt, Command + D to Deselect. You may have a small area selected which excludes the area you're trying to work on.
